How Lifestyle Affects Overall Wellness

The decisions we make and the actions we take in each moment of our day will affect our bodies and can slowly produce problems that may not show symptoms. What we eat, how we sit, the work that we do with our bodies, and even the way we emotionally react to a situation, can have long-term impacts on our wellness. If you spend your days sitting at a desk, the way you hold your head or place your arms can have a major impact, not only on your neck and shoulders but also on your whole body.

This is because the bundle of nerves that sends messages to every other part of our body originates in our spinal column. When vertebrae become misaligned there are dozens of possible impacts upon our health. This also goes for how we hold emotions in the body. If we are chronically tensing our shoulders due to stress or anxiety, this can once again impact the spine and the rest of the body. As you can see, even if we don’t feel sick, we may need a little extra care to prevent daily activities from becoming more severe problems.

Why We Need Wellness Care

Health can be defined as the body functioning properly rather than just feeling good. You may not feel sick today, but if your nervous system is being impeded from sending messages to other organs and systems in the body, things may not be working as well as they could be. Through a regular wellness care program that works to restore spinal health and mobility, people often find that they have more energy and do not get sick as often. When the nervous system is functioning properly, the benefits are endless. Digestion, blood flow, lung capacity, heartbeat, skin tone, and overall mobility are just some of the body’s functions that are positively impacted by a spine that is properly aligned.

Chiropractic Treatment as Part of a Wellness Care Plan

Chiropractic treatments work to keep the integrity of the nervous system intact and are an excellent choice as a part of a wellness care plan. Regular, gentle adjustments can ensure that the daily impacts of your life are not wearing your health down over time. By performing a thorough evaluation of your health history and current physical state, a chiropractor can help you detect problems before they develop into a more serious issue, keeping you at peak function and feeling great. Specialities at Soulstice Wellness Centre

My specialty as a Cochrane chiropractor is dealing with low back and Sciatic pain, and migraines. I have a non-surgical decompression table which allows symptom relief for patients experiencing back pain with pain into one or both legs. Over the years I have developed an affinity for patients with sciatic pain because of referrals from current or past patients who have found positive results from my services. We also have licensed massage therapists who work closely with me to help correct muscle imbalances caused by spinal misalignments compressing on nerves. It is a win-win for the patient to have a one-stop location for their health services.

Common Misconceptions

I have heard many questions and concerns regarding adjustments; Are they safe? Are there risks? Do I have to have my neck “cracked?” These are all valid questions that deserve answers. To put it lightly, chiropractic is VERY safe. There are almost no risks involved with most adjustments. Chiropractic has been proven over and over through clinical studies to be a safe and effective way of alleviating musculoskeletal pain. For patients who are concerned about manual therapy (cracking), I offer instrument adjusting that is both gentle, and effective. I primarily use instrument adjusting on infants, toddlers, elderly, and anyone who has a concern with manual adjustments.

Chiropractic Explained

How Can Chiropractic Care Help You?

In a short answer, YES!! Many people find benefits from chiropractic treatments. One of the most common is improved joint and spinal mobility. Chiropractic also helps with normalizing nerve function by improving the biomechanics and decreasing inflammation which could be putting pressure on nerves causing discomfort, and problems with organ and muscle function.

The History of Chiropractic Care

The word “Chiropractic” is derived from the Greek word for hand. As such, chiropractors use their hands to assess function of the spine and extremity joints using orthopedic testing. The “Father of Chiropractic” was D.D. Palmer. In 1895, D.D. Palmer manipulated the spine of a partially deaf janitor, Harvey Lillard, who later reported that his hearing had improved due to the change.

Palmer opened the first chiropractic school a short time later and since then it has become a mainstream health care profession helping with many musculoskeletal conditions.

What Kind of Training Does a Chiropractor Have?

Chiropractic doctors go through a minimum of four years of schooling at a chiropractic college, preceded by a minimum of three years of undergraduate pre-requisites. Most chiropractors have undergraduate degrees. Students of chiropractic care must spend a minimum of at least 4,700 hours of class time, plus an additional 1000 hours of outpatient treatment clinical time in order to earn their doctor of chiropractic degree.

What Can A Chiropractor Treat?

The most common types of pain you can treat with a chiropractic treatment by Dr. Androsoff are:

  • Neck pain.
  • Headaches – From mild to full on migraine.
  • Upper back/shoulder pain (including pain or altered sensation into the arms) and stiffness.
  • Low Back Pain.
  • Hip Pain.
  • Pelvic Pain.
  • Sciatica (including leg pain, cramping, and altered sensation such as numbness, tingling, or weakness).
  • Knee Pain.
  • Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) pain.
  • Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.

What To Expect On Your 1st Cochrane Chiropractor Visit?

Your first visit will take between 45 minutes to an hour, and will be mostly information gathering. Dr. Androsoff does a thorough history and exam before he does any treatments. This is to ensure the best, most accurate diagnosis, and to ensure that your chiropractic treatment/care will be able to help with your specific condition.

Along with a patient history, in order to diagnose your condition Dr. Androsoff uses a variety of orthopedic testing, posture assessment, nervous system scanning equipment, and when appropriate, diagnostic imaging such as x-rays or ultrasound.

Your second visit will take approximately 30 minutes, and will be a report of exam findings, and usually a diagnosis, treatment plan, and prognosis. There will be a lot of information covered in this visit, so you are encouraged to bring a spouse, or family member to this visit if you would like to.

Subsequent visits will usually take between 5-10 minutes. Dr. Androsoff says: I’ve had a passion for health and wellness since I was a child, and I’ve always found helping other people to be the most satisfying thing I can do with my time. From a young age I knew I wanted to help others as some type of healthcare professional.

We Can Help Alleviate If Not Cure Your Pain.

A lot of people are hesitant to see a chiropractor because they have either had a negative experience, heard it can be painful, or may be an ineffective waste of time. I love getting an opportunity to change those types of patients minds. Just like not all family doctors, or dentists are the same, not all chiropractors are the same. I take pride in my work, and genuinely love helping people become more healthy. If I’m not the right person to help you with your problem, I am confident I can point you in the right direction.

I look forward to meeting you soon!
